Isn’t she a pretty girl? Brian was playing with the camera and new flashes last weekend and got some pictures of Carla. The background is actually the backing of the quilt I’m working on.
Here’s what Brian sent to the family a couple of days ago:
“She’s feeling mostly fine. A little quicker to get tired when she plays, and she pants a lot around bedtime, as if she’s hot (which may actually be the case – she’ll move from the carpet to the linoleum after a few minutes). But she’s otherwise acting like herself, getting up to greet us when we come home and playing “bounce†with the tennis balls in the family room pretty much all evening long.
She’s grown accustomed to the prednisone dosage, so doesn’t need her 3AM trip to the backyard anymore, though she does appreciate one around 6, which is fine. She takes enough pills twice a day that the hot dog we put them in can’t hold any more.
But they all seem to be doing the trick. If you didn’t know something was wrong, you wouldn’t think anything was wrong.”
I’m still trying to stay in the moment about this. Everyday I know that one day she won’t be here anymore, but I remind myself that “today is not that day.” I’m going to go walk her soon. She loves her belly rubs more than ever now, so I try to give her plenty of those, too. She’s a good dog

We been thinking the same thing about Abbye lately. “If you didn’t know how sick she was, you’d never know how sick she is.” Our prayer is that when it all catches up to her — as it inevitably will — the end comes quickly and painlessly. But until then, we’ll enjoy having her around as much as possible.

That’s an adorable portrait of Carla! Love her pose and she is beautiful! Our dog, Smokey, is turning 14 and panting a lot more than usual…it’s hard watching them grow old and helping them be comfortable in their old age. I hope Carla’s illness is held at bay for a long time to come.
